In a state where scenery and terrain is perhaps more varied than in any other part of the country, where the forested slopes of the majestic hills of the Western Ghats vie with the magnificent beaches of the Coromandel Coast, it is indeed difficult to decide which is the best feature of multi-faceted Tamil Nadu is. Tamil Nadu and Kerala have some of the most beautiful hill stations in India. Kodaikanal, which is 120 kms from Madurai, is called as "The Princess of Hill Stations" situated on the Western Ghats at an altitude of 2133 mts. Ooty or Udagamandalam (the Tamil version of the original name) rightly described as "Queen of Hill Stations" by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, now sprawls over an area of 36 sq km with a number of tall buildings cluttering its hill slopes. It is situated at an altitude of 2,240 meters above sea level. Munnar, the Kashmir of South India is a part of Kerala. It is one of the most popular hill stations in India. Layer after layer of tea gardens, mountain mist, waterfalls and forest sanctuaries make Munnar almost surrealistically beautiful. Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala.
